2 Management servers This chapter provides the minimum hardware and software requirements for three management servers: • A required CMS • An optional HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud management server. For ProLiant customers wanting to manage a KVM cloud, HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud provides a Matrix KVM Admin Console appliance which requires its own host. • An optional HP Insight Control server provisioning management server.
CMS memory Table 4 (page 9) lists the memory requirements on the CMS, which differ for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) operating systems and differ based on whether Matrix OE is being installed.
Table 6 CMS disk space considerations Software component Disk space requirement Insight Control power management Disk space is consumed by the storage of power history data for each supported system. HP recommends allocating 12 MB per system per year of history. For example, a total of 2000 power managed systems, monitored PDUs/PDRs, and associated racks and data centers consume approximately 24 GB of disk space for one year of power history data.
Table 7 CMS management capabilities (continued) Item Maximum configuration on an x64 CMS Configurations using only Hyper-V virtual machines provisioned through IO services or in combination with ESX VMs and/or other servers provisioned through LSM are limited to a total of 1,500 DR-protected logical servers. In a Federated Environment, Matrix recovery management is only supported on a primary-federated CMS at both the primary and DR sites.
Matrix KVM Private Cloud hardware The Matrix KVM Private Cloud environment consists of: • A two-node failover KVM Management cluster in a High Availability design or a single KVM Management host for the HP Matrix KVM Admin Console appliance. • A set of compute nodes (KVM hosts) for deployed virtual machine instances (up to 32 nodes, hosting up to 2500 VMs). Table 9 (page 12) lists the hardware requirements for the Management host based on the size of the configuration (demo, small, medium, or large).
Table 11 Matrix KVM Private Cloud solution limits and scalability Solution limits and scalability Value Matrix KVM Private Cloud per Matrix CMS If the Matrix configuration is federated, it must be attached to the primary CMS Tenants Up to 100 VMs Up to 2500 managed VM guests Images Up to 1000 Flavors Up to 100 IP addresses Up to 4096 Insight Control server provisioning hardware Insight Control server provisioning is a VM appliance that runs on a separate VMware vSphere (ESXi) or Microsoft Hype
1 CAUTION: HP strongly recommends using thick (VMware) or fixed size (Hyper-V) disk provisioning. If you use thin provisioning and your VM host disk runs out of space, the appliance will crash and may not recover. You will need to install a new appliance and restore from backup.

Matrix KVM Private Cloud software HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud includes the HP Matrix KVM Admin Console, an administrative console that runs in concert with HP Matrix Operating Environment on a pre-integrated appliance. The appliance runs on a RHEL KVM 6.3 or RHEL KVM 6.4 hypervisor. Insight Control server provisioning software Insight Control server provisioning runs on the following hypervisors: • VMware ESXi version 5.0, 5.0 Update 1, or 5.0 Update 2 • VMware vSphere (ESXi) version 5.1, 5.

3 Management servers in a high-availability environment This chapter defines the requirements for a CMS and Matrix KVM Private Cloud in a high-availability environment. CMS in a HA environment Using failover clustering with Insight Management is a simple way to achieve redundancy, availability, load balancing, and failover capability. The CMS can be configured as a single-site, two-node physical server Microsoft Windows Server 2012 failover cluster to create a highly-available environment.

Unsupported items in a CMS cluster configuration • Brocade Network Advisor, HP P6000 Command View Software, HP Operations Orchestration, VMware vCenter Server, and similar applications are not permitted in a CMS cluster • Multi-site Windows cluster: a CMS cluster is a single site cluster. Matrix KVM Private Cloud in a HA environment The Matrix KVM Admin Console appliance can be configured as a single-site, two-node physical server RHEL KVM 6.3 or RHEL KVM 6.
4 Managed systems hardware This chapter provides the hardware, firmware, and software requirements for servers that Insight Management can license and manage, as well as information on public cloud providers. Public cloud providers In addition to provisioning with on-premise resources, Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration supports provisioning virtual servers to the following public cloud providers: HP Cloud Services, Savvis, and Amazon Web Services.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The BIOS version does not apply to these servers. Data Center Power Control works only on Primary Addresses of a system and cannot detect a system with a non-primary address. If a system has IPV4 as a primary address and IPV6 as a non-primary address, Data Center Power Control only works with the IPV4 address. For VMhost with only an IPV6 address. Data Center Power Control cannot perform a graceful shutdown of guests. It will only shutdown the hosts.
