Owner manual

(RTS) and ‘Clear to Send’ (CTS). Normally a PC connected to the H-5223 will turn on the
CTS signal when it is ready to communicate and watches the RTS signal before it sends
anything to the H-5223. The same type of monitoring will be done by the H-5223, It will not
send anything to the PC if CTS is not on and will turn on RTS indicating to the PC it is ready.
NOTE: Hardware flow control should only be enabled on the PC when the H-5223 is
turned on. If hardware flow control is enabled on the PC and the H-5223 is off, the
PC will not be able to turn on the H-5223 because the PC will wait for the RTS
signal to go active before sending the wake up characters, and RTS will only go
active when the H-5223 is turned on over the serial port.
E - Emulation
Terminal emulation is used to control computer screen operations like clearing the screen or
moving the curser around to update different portions of the screen without having to redraw
the complete screen. If the information on the screen appears to be from the H-5223 but is
displayed in abnormal places or intermixed with abnormal characters, then emulation is the
most probable cause of the problem. The emulation modes supported are VT-52 and VT-100
with VT-100 as the default.
S - Startup Mode: Menu
The startup mode selection is ‘Menu’ mode or ‘Command’ mode. Menu mode is the default
and allows for simple human interaction to setup and retrieve data from the system. In
command mode the H-5223 is normally set up for automatic data collection from a host
computer, or a program on a host computer has been developed to provide a different user
interface.
3.9.2 C - Configuration Files
This option is selected by pressing ‘C’ and is for saving application specific configuration files on
a PC or to setup the H-5223 from a configuration file already on a PC. The screen is displayed
below.

S - Send Setup Data
This option is used to send the setup information to a PC. The PC will need to be configured
to capture the ASCII data. The setup information will be saved in a file named by the user and
is dependant on the PC terminal emulation program on how this is done.
