Tools Needed
1.) Cutting the top cap: Measure the distance between the
railing posts at the deck level and cut the top cap rail to fit.
2.) Cutting the predrilled rails: Subtract 1/4” from the top cap
measurement to allow for the thickness of the rail hanger
brackets. Being careful to ensure that the predrilled holes are
equal distance from both ends, cut the top and bottom railings
to length.
(Figure 1) Cut a 1/2”x 1/2” 45 degree angle on bottom corners
of each end of cap rail to accommodate rail hanger brackets to
be installed later.
3.) Bottom rail bracket installation: Mark the location of the
bottom railing on center of posts using rail hanger bracket and
angled screw attachment points. Drill pilot holes for all
attachment points (Figure 2 – 4x4 nominal size wood post
shown.) Using the screws provided attach rail hanger brackets
to the ends of the bottom railing so that the spindle holes will
face up. Predrill pilot holes to avoid splitting the wood.
4.) Bottom rail installation: Attach the bottom railing to the
posts using the installed rail hanger brackets and included
screws so that the spindle holes face up. Insert spindles into
bottom rail.
5.) Top rail bracket attachment: Using screws provided attach
rail hanger brackets (drill pilot holes) so that beveled end will
face up and spindle holes will face down when installed.
Beginning at one end of the top rail, align and insert each
spindle with the corresponding hole on the bottom rail (Figure
3). After all spindles are aligned and securely in their respective
hole, proceed to part 6 (page 2).
