3 1. Congratulations On Your Purchase Thank you for purchasing this USB microscope. You have acquired a modern optoelectronic product allowing microscopic observation via a PC screen. Prior to using the device please study these Operating Instructions in their entirety and observe the notes. This will ensure a long service life of the product. If you should pass on the microscope to another user, please also include these Operating Instructions.

6 6. Preparation For Use Remove microscope from packaging and place on a straight, stable and clean surface. Slide microscope unit from the top into the stand holder. Before you can use the USB microscope, the software supplied on the program CD must be installed on your PC. 6.1. Installation Of Software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD Note: First install the Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD software and the device driver. Only then complete the USB connection between the microscope and the PC.
7 • Follow the instructions of the installation assistant. After completing a step always click on “Continue“ to start the next step. - Select a language. The default language is “German“. - The menu window of the InstallShield Wizard appears on screen. - Read the license agreement and confirm by clicking on “Yes“. - Enter the user name, the company name, where applicable, and the serial number. The serial number of the software can be found on the cover of the program CD.
8 • The next step copies the required files to your PC. This may take a few minutes. • The software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD has now been installed. If selected at the top, the ReadMe file and/or registration window is opened. The ReadMe file contains further information about the installation of the program and about remedying problems. • Click on “No, computer will be restarted later“ if asked in the subsequent Install Shield Wizard menu and click on ”Finish“ to close the menu screen. 6.2.
9 • The menu window of the InstallShield Wizard appears on screen. To start the transfer of the driver files click on “Continue“. Please restart your computer once the driver installation has been completed. • After having restarted the system, connect the USB microscope to your computer, using the USB cable provided. Please connect the microscope directly to the rear USB port of your computer. • The installation program will then search for the connected device and set it up for the application.
10 Caution ! The supplied Eosin dye can cause irritation when coming into contact with the eyes (R36). Do not inhale the dust! If agent comes into contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor! Careful when handling dye. Can cause discoloration of textiles, furniture and other surfaces. 7.3. Breeding Brine Shrimps An interesting experiment is breeding and observing the development of brine shrimp, also called Sea Monkeys (Artemia Salina) under the microscope.
11 • Now a little patience is required. It can take over a week before the first Nauplii (larvae) can be recognized. • Important: Do not feed in the first week! Careful feeding should only commence after a size of approx. 0.3 cm has been reached. • The Nauplii need at least 12 hours of light each day to promote ideal growth. • Use only special feed for young Nauplii until they have reached a size of approx. 1.5 cm.
12 8. Using The Microscope 8.1. Adjusting The Lighting Connect the USB microscope to the switched-on PC and switch on the object lighting by pushing the Lighting button: Press 1x: the object is illuminated from above (uplighting principle). This setting should be used for examining non-transparent objects. Press 2x: the object is illuminated from below (backlighting principle). This setting should be used for examining transparent objects. Press 3x: the object is illuminated from below and above.
13 Record Preview area Note: Always start your observations on the lowest magnification. This makes it easier to center and focus the object. 9. Recording And Storing Images And Videos 9.1. Snapshot Function • Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 8.3. • Push the Snapshot button to capture the image currently displayed. • The “SnapShow“ window and the image is shown on screen. By pushing the button again, the last image is always displayed on screen.
14 9.2. Creating Digital Images With Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD • • • • Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 8.3. Ensure that in the “Source“ drop-down menu the USB microscope is specified as the source. The entry for the microscope is “USB 2.0 Video Camera“. Change the selection where required. Specify the folder in which the images are to be stored. Click on the folder symbol “Recording folder“ and select the desired folder. In the Ulead program window click on “record image“.

Producing Digital Videos With Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD • Carry out steps 1 to 8 as directed in section 8.3. • Select the desired video format from the menu point “Format“. • Click on the symbol “Video recording“ to start recording. • The recording time is shown under “Duration’“. • To stop recording click on the symbol “ Stop recording“. 16 Note: The program Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD provides extensive functions for processing your images and videos. Program features can be found in the User Manual provided on the program CD. Your language version can be found in folder Document/Manual ”Your language”. 10. Storage and Care 10.1. Storage When not used store your USB microscope in a dry location free from dust. If the device is not used for some time it is best returned to it´s original packaging for secure storage and also transportation.
17 11. Disposal 11.1. Packaging In order to prevent any damage, the device is supplied in transportation packaging. This packaging consists of recyclable material and can be returned to the recycling cycle. Dispose of packaging correctly. 11.2. Device In accordance with EC Directive 2002/96/EG the device must be correctly dis posed off at the end of its life and may not be disposed off in domestic waste. Reusable material contained in the devise will be recycled, preventing environmental pollution.
