Linksys E1000 Setup Instructions
Note: All of these steps are required if you intend to set up a router on campus. If your router is configured incorrectly,
ITS reserves the right to shut off internet to the router and require you to bring the router to be reconfigured.
1. Remove router and associated cabling from box
2. DO NOT use the CD that came with the router
Attaching Router to Computer
3. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable
into port #1 on the router, and the
other end into your computer
4. Plug in the router’s power adapter
Logging into Router Software
5. Open a web browser on your computer and go to
http://192.168.1.1
6. Login with the following credentials:
Username: admin
Password: admin
Changing Administrator Password, Enabling Remote
Management, Disabling UPnP
7. Click the Administration tab
8. Enter, and re-enter a new password. Keep track of
this password for future use.
9. Enable Remote Management
10. Disable UPnP
11. Click Save Settings at the bottom
Name your Wireless Network and Select Channel
12. Click the Wireless tab
13. Select “Manual”
14. Set your preferred SSID (network name) and pick a
channel, 1-11, at random (we just don’t want
everyone on the same channel).
15. Click Save Settings
Setting up Wireless Password
16. Click the Wireless Security sub-tab
17. Set the security mode to WPA2 Personal
18. WPA Algorithms should be set at TKIP+AES
19. Enter a WPA Shared Key (your wireless password).
20. Click Save Settings
