NAME

parperm - conﬁgure partition conﬁguration privilege for nPartitions and vPars

SYNOPSIS

parperm

parperm scope {ON|OFF} nParId[

:vParId]

WARNING: When partition conﬁguration privilege is unrestricted (ON) for a partition,

conﬁguration commands issued by that partition can affect the conﬁguration of another partition

(within limits described below). When this privilege is restricted (OFF), conﬁguration commands

issued by the restricted partition cannot affect power or partition assignment of hardware which

are not assigned to the partition.

DESCRIPTION

The

parperm command can be used to remove restrictions which prevent an operating system running

in a partition from performing partition conﬁguration operations on other partitions. By default, a parti-

tion can only perform partition conﬁguration operations on itself. The commands to display partition

status do not need any authorization and are allowed from any partition.

parperm without any option will display a list of unrestricted partitions.

Any OA user having operator privilege level or above can execute this command.

management terms used in this man page.

Options and Arguments

parperm recognizes the following command line options and arguments:

scope The "scope" ﬁeld is used to indicate whether you are granting or denying the permis-

sion to issue nPartition or vPartition commands. It does not refer to what type of

partition is being granted or denied that permission.

scope is either

npar or vpar (case-insensitive).

When the scope speciﬁed is

npar, the following ON or OFF parameter causes the

speciﬁed partition to become unrestricted (ON) or restricted (OFF) from performing

OS supported nPartition conﬁguration operations within the complex. When the

scope speciﬁed is vpar, the following ON or OFF parameter causes the speciﬁed

partition to become unrestricted (ON) or restricted (OFF) from performing virtual

partition conﬁguration operations within the nPartition to which it belongs.

Note that

vpar scope is only necessary for a virtual partition. An nPartition

always has the permission to do virtual partition operations in the local nPartition.

However for npar scope, the speciﬁed partition can be either an nPartition or a vir-

tual partition.

The

vpar scope is conﬁned to the local nPartition. In other words, vpar scope only

allows virtual partition operations within the nPartition containing the virtual par-

tition. It does not give permissions to allow virtual partition operations on any other

nPartitions.

{

ON|OFF} The ON or OFF option indicates whether this nPartition or virtual partition should

be unrestricted (ON) or restricted (OFF) from doing partition conﬁguration opera-

tions.

nParId[

:vParId] The identiﬁer of the partition which is to be unrestricted or restricted. nParId can

be the nPartition number or name. vParId can be the virtual partition number or

name.

If the nPartition is running virtual partitions and the user does not specify a partic-

ular vParId, none of the virtual partitions becomes unrestricted.

RETURN VALUE

The

parperm command exits with one of the following values:

0 Successful completion.

1 Error condition occurred.
