NAME

hyphen - ﬁnd hyphenated words

SYNOPSIS

hyphen [ ﬁles ]

DESCRIPTION

hyphen ﬁnds all the hyphenated words ending lines in ﬁles and prints them on the standard output. If

no arguments are given, the standard input is used; thus,

hyphen can be used as a ﬁlter.

EXAMPLES

Prepare an

nroff hyphenation proofreading ﬁle for textﬁle .

mm textfile | hyphen

WARNINGS

hyphen cannot cope with hyphenated italics (i.e., underlined) words; it often misses them completely or

mangles them.

hyphen occasionally gets confused, but with no ill effects other than spurious extra output.
