Start Guide
This document provides instructions for installing the
HP StorageWorks P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.

Before you begin
In order to fully implement the HP StorageWorks P4000 G2 Unified NAS
Gateway, you must first set up an HP P4000 SAN Solution. The P4000
G2 Unified NAS Gateway is then connected to the HP P4000 SAN as
described in this document.
The HP StorageWorks P4000 SAN Solutions documentation provides
additional information about creating and managing HP StorageWorks
P4000 SAN Solutions. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/p4000, click HP
Support and Drivers, select your HP StorageWorks P4000 SAN Solution
model, and then click Manuals.
Overview
The HP StorageWorks P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway consists of one
or more Windows Storage Server systems. These hardware components
are configured in a clustered environment with a P4000 SAN Solution.
The P4000 SAN Solution provides iSCSI block services while the P4000
G2 Unified NAS Gateway provides data services using the CIFS/NFS
protocols. The P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway also provides optional
data protection services in the form of backup tools HP Data Protector,
Data Protection Manager (DPM), VMWare, and VMware Consolidated
Backup (VCB) .
The P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway is clustered and connected to the
HP P4000 SAN network segment using standard Ethernet IP switches.
Up to eight (8) P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway nodes can be clustered
together.
IMPORTANT:
The instructions and illustrations in this document describe the
installation of a 2–node P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway. If
you purchased the 1–node P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway,
all instructions related to configuring the second node of the
solution do not apply to your product. The 1–node solution does
not support full HA capability, but is HA ready and can be
upgraded to a full HA solution by purchasing and installing an
additional 1–node P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.
Install the P4000 G2 Unified NAS
Gateway hardware
1. Unpack the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway hardware.
2. Install the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway components into a rack
using the provided rail kits.
Install the rail kit by following the HP Rack Rail Kit installation instructions.
Go to http://www.hp.com/go/p4000, click HP Support & Drivers, se lect
your product model, and then click Manuals. If the document is not
available, enter HP Rack Rail Kit installation instructions into the Search
field.
Make cable connections
Each P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway includes 6 NIC connectors. Each
of these NIC connectors is reserved for a specific network connection
purpose:
• 1 NIC connector is reserved for heartbeat connectivity between the
two P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway storage systems.
• 2 NIC connectors are reserved for multi-path connectivity into P4000
SAN storage nodes.
• 3 NIC connectors are reserved for front file serving into a client net-
work
In order to set up the cluster environment for the P4000 G2 Unified NAS
Gateway, you must first connect the hardware components in a
fault-tolerant configuration. Using Ethernet cables, make the following
connections:
• Connect the 2 P4000 G2 NAS Gateway nodes to each other to es-
tablish heartbeat connectivity between the two. This connection is
shown in red.
• Connect the P4000 G2 NAS Gateway nodes to a P4000 SAN (5)
using standard IP switches (4). These connections are shown in green
and blue.
• Connect the P4000 G2 NAS Gateway nodes (3) to the client network
(1) using a standard IP switch (2). These connections are shown in
black.
• Connect the P4000 G2 NAS Gateway power cords (6) to power
outlets.
• If using iLO2 for remote management, connect an Ethernet cable from
the dedicated iLO2 management port (7) to the network (preferably
on the same subnet).

Connect to the P4000 G2 Unified NAS
Gateway
Use either the direct connect or remote management method to connect
to the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.
IMPORTANT:
Only the direct attach and remote management access methods
can be used to install the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.
After the installation process is complete and the system's IP
address has been assigned, you can then additionally use the
remote browser and remote desktop methods to access the
system.
• Direct attach — Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse directly to
the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway. This access method is mandat-
ory if your network does not have a Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol (DHCP) server.
• Remote management — Access the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway
using the Integrated Lights-Out 2 remote management method:
1. Ensur e that a network cable is connected to the iLO 2 po rt located
on the back of the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.
2. Locate the iLO 2 Network Settings tag attached to the P4000
G2 Unified NAS Gateway and record the default user name,
password, and DNS name.
3. From a remote computer, open a standard Web browser and
enter the iLO 2 management hostname of the P4000 G2 Unified
NAS Gateway.
NOTE:
By default, iLO 2 obtains the management IP addr ess
and subnet mask from your network’s DHCP server.
The hostn ame fo und on the iLO 2 tag is auto m atically
registered with your network’s DNS server.
4. Using the default user information provided on the iL O 2 Networ k
Settings tag, log on to the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.
