17.11.2 Download Service
The NAS’s download service downloads files from t he I nternet dir ect ly t o the NAS. You do not have
to download t o your com put er and t hen copy t o t he NAS. This can free up your com put er’s syst em
resources.
The NAS can download using t hese prot ocols.
• HTTP: The standard prot ocol for web pages.
• FTP: A standard I nt ernet file transfer service.
• P2P download: Peer- to-peer files sharing prot ocol.
Note: Do not use the NAS for illegal purposes. I llegal downloading or sharing of files can
result in severe civil and crim inal penalties. You are subject t o the restrict ions of
copyright laws and any other applicable laws and will bear t he consequences of any
infringem ent s thereof. ZyXEL bears NO responsibility or liability for your use of the
download service feat ure.
Torrent Files
The NAS needs a “.torrent ” file for P2P download to download a file. The t orrent file gives t he NAS
inform at ion about t he file t o be downloaded ( and shared) and the t racker( s) ( com put ers) t hat
coordinates the distribut ion of the file.
When you add a P2P dow nload t ask in t he NAS’s web configurat or screens, you can copy and past e
the URL of t he t orrent file. The NAS aut om at ically downloads t he torrent file and saves it in a
t or rent folder within the folder where the NAS st ores downloaded files ( the adm in share’s
dow nloa d folder by default).
I f you already have t he torrent file saved on your com put er, you can j ust specify it s locat ion when
adding a download task t hrough t he w eb configurator. Anot her m ethod is t o use FTP or a CI FS
program ( Windows Explorer for exam ple) to copy t he t orrent file int o t he t orre nt folder. The NAS
autom atically uses t he t orrent file.
