Connecting the Digital Piano to a
Computer
Connecting the digital piano to a computer using the MIDI jacks enables you to transfer MIDI data
between the piano and the computer.
In addition, installing Musicsoft Downloader on the computer enables you to transfer song data
between the instrument and the computer (page 31).
An example of connecting this instrument to the USB port on a computer
Use an optional USB-MIDI interface (such as a Yamaha UX16) to connect this instrument’s MIDI jacks to the computer’s
USB port.
You must install the USB-MIDI driver on the computer correctly so that you can control your MIDI instrument from the
computer. The USB-MIDI driver is a software application that enables MIDI signals to be transmitted between the
sequence software on the computer and the connected MIDI instrument. For more information, refer to the user’s man-
ual that came with the USB interface device.
Connecting this instrument to the computer using a USB-MIDI interface
Tu rn off the power to this instrument. Connect the MIDI OUT cable from the USB-MIDI interface to this instru-
ment’s MIDI IN jack, and connect the MIDI IN cable from the USB-MIDI interface to this instrument’s MIDI OUT
jack.
The connection between this instrument and the computer has now been established.
Turn on the power to this instrument and try to transfer MIDI data to or from the computer.
For more information on connecting the YAMAHA UX16, refer to the user’s manual that came with the UX16.
When this instrument is used as a tone module, performance data with voices that are not found on this instrument will not be played cor-
rectly.
Before you connect this instrument to a computer, first turn off the power to both this instrument and the computer. After you make the
connections, turn on the power to the computer first, then turn on the power to this instrument.
