2. Attach:
• Dial gauge 1
• Dial gauge stand 2
To left cylinder head.
Dial gauge:

Stand:

3. Rotate the magneto rotor 1 until the piston
reaches top dead center (TDC). When this
happens, the needle on the dial gauge will
stop and reverse directions even though
the rotor is being turned in the same direc-
tion.
4. Set the dial gauge to zero at TDC.
5. From TDC, rotate the rotor clockwise until
the dial gauge indicates that the piston is at
a specified distance from TDC.

2.4 mm (0.094 in)

IGNITION TIMING CHECK
NOTE:
• The right pick-up coil 1 is provided so that
ignition timing can be set for both cylinders
by adjusting for the left cylinder only.
Therefore, do not loosen the screws (right
pick-up coil) 2.
• When the portion a of the right pick-up coil
aligns with the punch mark b on the stator,
the right pick-up coil forms an angle of 90˚
with the left pick-up coil, indicating that the
ignition timing is the same for both cylinders.
1. Remove:
• Cowling
• Fuel tank
• Spark plugs (left and right cylinder)
