MD8—Owner’s Manual
Controlling the MD8 with MMC
Quite a few of the MD8’s functions can also be controlled using MIDI Machine Control
(MMC) commands. MMC is short for a set of MIDI messages that can be used to control
audio and video (tape) machines, disc recorders, and other equipment. Typically, MMC
commands include Stop, Play, and Pause. As you will see, the MD8 understands a lot more
MMC messages.
Here are the MMC messages the MD8 understands:

Stop Command 01
When the MD8 receives this command during
recording, rehearsal, or playback, it will stop.
Play
Commands
02, 03
When the MD8 receives this message, it will start
playback. If this message is received during
recording or rehearsal, the MD8 will stop.
Fast Forward Command 04
Causes the MD8 to skip to the next song. If this
message is received during recording or
rehearsal, the MD8 will stop.
Rewind Command 05
Causes the MD8 to jump to the previous song. If
this message is received during recording or
rehearsal, the MD8 will stop.
Record Strobe Command 06
If the MD8 is stopped, it will start recording. If it
is playing back, it will perform a punch in opera-
tion. This message is ignored when the MD8
waits in Pause mode.
Record Exit Command 07 Switches off the recording mode.
Pause Command 09
Causes the MD8 to pause, or stop if its record-
ing or rehearsing.
MMC Reset Command 0D
Causes the MD8 to reset the MMC information
to its default setting (power-on status).
Write Commands 40 Data is written to the specied eld
Locate Command 44
Causes the MD8 to locate to the specied time-
code position.
REC Mode
Information

Toggles between REHE and REC.

Turns REC Select ON/OFF.
