The Country Flame Model R catalytic stove is approved and listed for use in freestanding and alcove applications only.
The Model R has one of the lowest emissions rates of any catalytic stove at 1.5 grams per hour. The firebox is large at 3.5
cubic feet and can handle a 22-inch cut wood log. The look of the Model R makes it stand out as a focal point of any
room. With its leg kit installed, the Model R will bring years of warmth and efficient operation to any home.
Specifications for the Model R freestanding stove can be found on in the MODEL R (freestanding only) section. In the
event additional information is required, please contact Country Flame or one of its local authorized dealers.
Freestanding Model R catalytic stove applications should follow FIGURE 1 and TABLE 1 to ensure all minimum
clearances are properly maintained during installation. Install the Model R freestanding stove with a double wall UL
listed chimney system. With a double wall chimney system, minimum clearances are: a) 5-inches to combustible
sidewalls while maintaining a 45-degree angle to either wall, b) 12-inches to a sidewall, and c) 3 inches to a back wall.
Failure to maintain these minimum clearances can create overheating of combustible materials. Failure to maintain the
proper clearances will void the Country Flame warranty. Always refer to the Safety Label on the rear of the stove for the
latest clearance and installation instructions before installing the Model R stove insert.
Refer to FIGURE 3 and TABLE 2 for minimum clearances required in Alcove installations. An Alcove installation must
a) have a minimum back wall clearance of 3 inches, b) have a minimum of 12 inches side wall clearances, c) a minimum
of 5 inches for adjacent walls if a 45 degree angle is maintained to each wall, and d) a minimum of 42 inch clearance from
the top of the Model R to the bottom of the Alcove ceiling. Ensure that all local codes have been checked for any
additional restrictions on Alcove installations.
Refer to FIGURE 4 and TABLE 3 for minimum clearances required in the use of listed floor protection. A listed floor
protector must: a) have a minimum “R” value of 2.0, b) extend a minimum of 8 inches from each side of the unit, c)
extend 16 inches from the face of the Model R stove, and d) extend 3 inches as measured from the back of the stove. Use
a listed floor protector with a thermal conductivity of K = 0.85 Btu – inches per square foot per hour per degree
Fahrenheit and equivalent to 3/8” (9.4mm) non-asbestos millboard.
Refer to APPENDIX G for information on venting and chimney requirements.
