for ON-the wall
Spice Racks
Tools Needed:
Stud Finder, Tape Measure, Pencil, Hammer, drill, 1/8” drill bit or awl, Phillips
Screwdriver, Phillips Tip, Level
Depending on product ordered, your rack may be unfinished, primed or already pre-
finished in a color. If your rack is unfinished or primed, paint or stain the rack as
desired. You can remove the mounting brackets and put them in a safe place while you
are finishing the rack. Depending on mounting method, you may not use all of the
hardware we have provided.
The mounting brackets (See figure A) have already been placed inside the rack for you.
And the back panel has already been drilled and mounted in place with framing tabs
which bend over to secure it. If you need to remove it, simply bend the tabs back and
pull the panel out. Be sure to put it back in the proper orientation so that it lines up with
the holes in the mounting brackets.
Determine the placement on the wall or door and mark the location of the mounting
brackets on the wall surface. Check to see where studs are in your wall. If your
locations match up, great. If not, you can use the included wall anchors instead. If you
are mounting on a hollow core door, go to step 5.
Set the spice rack aside and using a 9/32” drill bit or awl, drill/puncture a hole in the
position where you marked for the bracket to mount. This way your anchor will not
wander when started. If your drill bit hits a stud, that’s great, you won’t need a drywall
anchor for this location. If not, that’s OK too – just use a drywall anchor in that position.
Take the plastic drywall anchors provided and screw it into the drywall until it is flush. Do
not over screw it. It just needs to be flush with the wall to be secure. See Figure B. Using
the 2” drywall screws hold your spice rack in position of the anchors and tighten one at a
time until spice rack is secured to the wall.
HOLLOW CORE DOORS ONLY: Place the spice rack in desired location and mark the
mounting holes on the door, just like above. A second set of hands holding the rack
while you mark your locations will be very helpful. NOTE: This needs to be on a flat
surface to work properly. If your door has raised panels molded into it, you may need to
change the location of the mounting plates so that each one is on a flat surface of the
door panel. Now set the rack aside.
Once you mark the door where you want the spice rack to go, using a drill and a 1/4
drill bit, drill the locations marked for the expansion anchors. Install the anchor bodies
into position by screwing them in until they are flush. Now tighten the screw all the way
down to snug them. The act of tightening the screw causes the expansion anchor to
mushroom behind the panel and secures it so that it cannot come back out. See Figure C.
Now unscrew the bolt from the expansion anchors (they are now locked in place and
can’t come out) and place spice rack in position and feed the bolt thru the new mounting
brackets and screw back into the expansion anchors until snug using a hand screwdriver.
We recommend that you do not mount any spice rack taller than 48” or deeper than 4.5”
on a Hollow Core Door!!
