Cut Post 5 Slide vinyl base trims onto post Add ½" to measurement in Step 4 to allow enough clearance for mounting brackets. a. Cut porch post to length using miter box or handsaw with fine tooth saw blade (see saw blade manufacturer’s specs for correct blades). 6 a. Make sure to have the first base trim pointing up and the opposite base trim pointing down b. Make sure to leave at least 39" flat surface on the base of the porch post – do not cut more than 11 ¼" off the bottom.
