The original 5/8 in. Type X wallboards for interior walls and ceilings

• Provide additional ﬁ re resistance over regular panels

• Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) Classiﬁ cation as to ﬁ re resistance, surface-burning

characteristics and noncombustibility

• Comply with ASTM C1396 physical properties for 5/8 in. Type X gypsum wallboard

• Achieved GREENGUARD Gold Certiﬁ cation and qualiﬁ es as a low VOC emitting material

(meets CA 01350)

USG Sheetrock® Brand Firecode® X Panels (UL Type SCX) are 5/8 in. Type X panels that feature

a ﬁ re-resistant gypsum core encased in 100% recycled face and back papers that form a high

strength composite design. The natural ﬁ nish face paper is folded around the long edges to

reinforce and protect the core, and the ends are cut square and even. The long edges of panels are

tapered, allowing joints to be reinforced and concealed with USG Sheetrock® Brand joint treatment

systems. USG Sheetrock® Brand Firecode® X Panels are UL Classiﬁ ed for ﬁ re resistance and can

be used in any UL Design where Type SCX panels are listed. The UL Type Designation is printed

with nonbleeding ink on the face along the long edge of each panel for easy identiﬁ cation by

building inspectors.

• Commercial or residential applications where 5/8 in. Type X panels are required

• New or repair and remodel construction

• Protection of load-bearing and non-load-bearing wood- or steel-framed ﬁ re-rated walls

1. Avoid exposure to sustained temperatures exceeding 125 °F (52 °C).

2. Avoid exposure to excessive, repetitive or continuous moisture before, during and after

installation. Eliminate sources of moisture immediately.

3. Maximum frame spacing for walls is 24 in. OC.

4. Must be stored o the ground and under cover in accordance with Gypsum Association's

Handling and Storage of Gypsum Panel Products (GA-801-07).

5. Not for load-bearing design and not a structural panel.

Painting products and systems should be used that comply with recommendations and requirements in Appendices of ASTM C840. For priming and decorating with paint, texture or wall covering, follow manufacturer’s directions for materials used.
