Measure [6] 12” x 8” sections from the ½” aspen board.

Then measure [2] 8” x 8” sections for the end pieces.

STEP 1: MEASURE

Cut along the marks made in the previous step using the

jigsaw. Hint: use a straight edge alongside the jigsaw.

STEP 3: mark slots Mark ½” slots 4” into each board, spaced 3-1/2” apart as seen in illustration. Trace the dimensions of the slots onto a piece of paper and use the paper to mark the slots onto each board. STEP 4: drill Using a 3/8” drill bit, drill a hole at the end of each slot. STEP 5: cut out indentations Cut out the indentations with a jigsaw.

STEP 6: sand Sand wood smooth on each board. If needed, smooth the inside of the slots to make the boards slot together easier. STEP 7: test fit sections Put individual sections together to make sure they will fit properly. Use sandpaper to adjust as needed. STEP 8: stain Apply pre-stain wood conditioner, sand, and finish with stain as per the manufacturer’s instructions. STEP 9: assemble Assemble the boards together as shown in the pictures.
