OperatingTips
UsingtheFastThrottleSetting
Forbestmowingandmaximumaircirculation,operate
theengineattheFASTthrottleposition.Airisrequired
tothoroughlycutgrassclippings,sodonotsetthe
heightofcutsolowastototallysurroundthemower
inuncutgrass.Alwaystrytohave1sideofthemower
freefromuncutgrass,whichallowsairtobedrawn
intothemower.
CuttingaLawnfortheFirstTime
Cutthegrassslightlylongerthannormaltoensure
thatthecuttingheightofthemowerdoesnotscalp
anyunevenground.However,thecuttingheightyou
haveusedinthepastisgenerallythebesttouse.
Whencuttinggrasslongerthan15.24cm(6inches)
tall,youmaywanttocutthelawntwicetoensurean
acceptablequalityofcut.
CuttingaThirdoftheGrassBlade
Itisbesttocutonlyaboutathirdofthegrassblade.
Cuttingmorethanthatisnotrecommendedunless
grassissparse,oritislatefallwhengrassgrows
moreslowly.
AlternatingtheMowingDirection
Alternatethemowingdirectiontokeepthegrass
standingstraight.Thisalsohelpsdisperseclippings,
whichenhancesdecompositionandfertilization.
MowingatCorrectIntervals
Normally,mowevery4days.However,grassgrows
atdifferentratesatdifferenttimes.Tomaintainthe
samecuttingheight,whichisagoodpractice,mow
moreofteninearlyspring.Asthegrassgrowthrate
slowsinmid-summer,mowlessfrequently.Ifyou
cannotmowforanextendedperiod,rstmowata
highcuttingheight;thenmowagain2dayslaterata
lowerheightsetting.
AdjustingtheCuttingSpeed
Toimprovecutquality,useaslowergroundspeed
incertainconditions.
AvoidingCuttingTooLow
Ifthecuttingwidthofthemoweriswiderthanthe
mowerthatyoupreviouslyused,raisethecutting
heighttoensurethatuneventurfisnotcuttooshort.
CuttingLongGrass
Ifthegrassiseverallowedtogrowslightlylongerthan
normal,orifitcontainsahighdegreeofmoisture,
raisethecuttingheighthigherthanusualandcutthe
grassatthissetting.Thencutthegrassagainusing
thelower,normalsetting.
Stopping
Ifyoumuststoptheforwardmotionofthemachine
whilemowing,aclumpofgrassclippingsmaydrop
ontoyourlawn.T oavoidthis,moveontoapreviously
cutareawiththebladesengaged.
KeepingtheUndersideofthe
MowerClean
Cleanclippingsanddirtfromtheundersideofthe
moweraftereachuse.Ifgrassanddirtbuildupinside
themower,thecuttingqualityeventuallybecomes
unsatisfactory.
MaintainingtheBlade
Maintainasharpbladethroughoutthecuttingseason,
becauseasharpbladecutscleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.T earingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.Checkthe
cutterbladesdailyforsharpnessandforanywearor
damage.Filedownanynicksandsharpentheblades
asnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replace
itimmediatelywithagenuineTororeplacementblade.
