AdjustingtheParkingBrake
ServiceInterval:Aftertherst100hours—Checkthe
parking-brakeadjustment.
Every500hoursthereafter
Checktomakesurebrakeisadjustedproperly.Thisprocedure
mustbefollowedaftertherst100hoursorwhenabrake
componenthasbeenremovedorreplaced.
1.Drivethemachineontoalevelsurface.
2.Disengagetheblade-controlswitch(PTO),movethe
motion-controlleverstotheneutral-lockedposition,
andsettheparkingbrake.
3.Stoptheengine,waitforallmovingpartstostop,and
removethekey.
4.Raisethebackofthemachineupandsupportthe
machinewithjackstands.
DANGER
Mechanicalorhydraulicjacksmayfailto
supportmachineandcauseaseriousinjury.
•Usejackstandwhensupportingmachine.
•Donotusehydraulicjacks.
5.Removethereartiresfromthemachine.
6.Removeanydebrisfromthebrakearea.
7.Rotatethedrive-wheel-releasehandletothereleased
position;refertoUsingtheDrive-wheel-releaseValves
(page27).
8.Measuretheoveralllengthofthecompressionspring.
Thecorrectlengthshouldbebetween3.8and4.0cm
(1-1/2and1-9/16inches).
Note:Ifthespringlengthiswithinthisrange,no
adjustmentisneeded.Ifitisnot,proceedtostep9.
9.Holdthethreaded-rodendwithatool,andadjustthe
locknutuntilthespringlengthisbetween3.8and4.0
cm(1-1/2and1-9/16inches)asshowninFigure74.
Note:Donotallowthecabletoturnwhenthenuts
arebeingloosened.

mustbeinthereleasedpositiononthehydros).
12.Afteradjustingthebrakesonbothsidesofthemower,
cyclethebrakehandleaminimumof6timestoallow
thecabletoseatintothesheathandmountingtabs.
13.Checkthespringlength,engagetheparkbrake,and
repeatsteps8through11ifthelengthisnotinthe
correctrange.
14.Rotatethedrive-wheel-releasehandletotheoperating
position;refertoUsingtheDrive-wheel-releaseValves
(page27).
15.Installthereartiresandtorquelugnutsbetween122to
129N-m(90to95ft-lb).
16.Removethejackstands.
