CheckingtheBelts
ServiceInterval:Every100hours—Checkthepump
drivebelt.
Every100hours—Checkthemower
deckbelt(s).
Checkbeltsforcracks,frayededges,burnmarks,wear,
signsofoverheatingoranyotherdamage.
Thesignsofawornmowerbeltaresquealingwhilethe
beltisrotating,bladesslippingwhileyouarecutting
grass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarks,andcracks.Replace
themowerbeltifyoudetectanyofthesesigns.
ReplacingtheMowerDeck
Beltfor36inMowers
Important:Thefastenersonthecoversofthis
machinearedesignedtoremainonthecoverafter
removal.Loosenallofthefastenersoneachcovera
fewturnssothatthecoverisloosebutstillattached,
thengobackandloosenthemuntilthecover
comesfree.Thiswillpreventyoufromaccidentally
strippingtheboltsfreeoftheretainers.
1.DisengagethePTOandsettheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Loosentheboltsandremovetherightbeltcover
withtheboltattachedtoit.
4.Removethespringfromtheanchorpostontheidler
pulleyarm(
Figure63).
5.Removethewornmowerbelt(Figure63).
6.Installthenewmowerbeltaroundtheclutchpulley,
deckpulleysandidlerpulley(
Figure63).
7.Installthespringontotheanchorpostontheidler
pulleyarm(Figure63).
8.Installthebeltcoverontothecuttingunitandsecure
thebolt.

ReplacingtheMowerDeck
Beltsfor40inMowers
Important:Thefastenersonthecoversofthis
machinearedesignedtoremainonthecoverafter
removal.Loosenallofthefastenersoneachcovera
fewturnssothatthecoverisloosebutstillattached,
thengobackandloosenthemuntilthecover
comesfree.Thiswillpreventyoufromaccidentally
strippingtheboltsfreeoftheretainers.
ReplacingtheRightMower
DeckBelt
1.DisengagethePTOandsettheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Loosentheboltsandremovethebeltcoverswith
theboltsattachedtothem.
4.Removethespringfromtheanchorpostontheidler
pulleyarm(
Figure63).
5.Removethewornmowerbelt(
Figure63).
6.Installthenewmowerbeltaroundthedeckpulleys
andidlerpulley(Figure63).
7.Installthespringontotheanchorpostontheidler
pulleyarm(Figure63).
8.Installthebeltcoversontothecuttingunitand
securethebolts.
