Incertainconditions,fuelisextremelyammable
andhighlyexplosive.Areorexplosionfromfuel
canburnyouandothersandcandamageproperty.
•Fillthefueltankoutdoorsonlevelground,in
anopenarea,whentheengineiscold.Wipeup
anyfuelthatspills.
•Neverllthefueltankinsideanenclosedtrailer.
•Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Fillthe
fueltanktothebottomofthellerneck.The
emptyspaceinthetankallowsfueltoexpand.
Overllingmayresultinfuelleakageordamage
totheengineoremissionsystem(ifequipped).
•Neversmokewhenhandlingfuel,andstayaway
fromanopenameorwherefuelfumesmaybe
ignitedbyaspark.
•Storefuelinanapprovedcontainerandkeepit
outofthereachofchildren.Donotbuymore
thana30-daysupplyoffuel.
•Alwaysplacefuelcontainersonthegroundaway
fromyourvehiclebeforelling.
•Donotllfuelcontainersinsideavehicleoron
atruckortrailerbedbecauseinteriorcarpets
orplastictruckbedlinersmayinsulatethe
containerandslowthelossofanystaticcharge.
•Whenpractical,removefuel-poweredequipment
fromthetruckortrailerandrefueltheequipment
withitswheelsontheground.
•Ifthisisnotpossible,thenrefuelsuchequipment
onatruckortrailerfromaportablecontainer,
ratherthanfromafuel-dispensernozzle.
•Ifafuel-dispensernozzlemustbeused,keepthe
nozzleincontactwiththerimofthefueltank
orcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingis
complete.
BiodieselReady
Thismachinecanalsouseabiodieselblendedfuelofup
toB20(20%biodiesel,80%petrodiesel).Thepetrodiesel
portionshouldbeloworultralowsulfur.
Observethefollowingprecautions:
•Thebiodieselportionofthefuelmeetspecication
ASTMD6751orEN14214.
•TheblendedfuelcompositionshouldmeetASTMD975
orEN590.
•Paintedsurfacesmaybedamagedbybiodieselblends.
•UseB5(biodieselcontendof5%)orlesserblendincold
weather.
•Monitorseals,hoses,gasketsincontactwithfuelasthey
maydegradeovertime.
•Fuellterpluggingmaybeexpectedforatimeafter
convertingtobiodieselblends.
•Contactyourdistributorifyouwishformoreinformation
onbiodiesel.
FillingtheFuelTank
Note:Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Fillthefuel
tanktothebottomofthellerneck.Theemptyspaceinthe
tankallowsthefueltoexpand.
1.Shutofftheengineandsettheparkingbrake.
2.Cleanaroundeachfuel-tankcapandremovethecap.
Fillthefueltanktothebottomofthellerneck.This
spaceinthetankallowsthefueltoexpand.Donotll
thefueltankcompletelyfull.
3.Installthefuel-tankcapsecurely.Wipeupanyfuelthat
mayhavespilled.
4.Ifpossible,llthefueltankaftereachuse.This
minimizespossiblebuildupofcondensationinsidethe
fueltank.
CheckingtheEngine-OilLevel
Beforeyoustarttheengineandusethemachine,check
theoillevelintheenginecrankcase;refertoCheckingthe
Engine-OilLevel(page39).
SwitchingtheFuelTanks
Important:Donotrunthemachineoutoffuel.This
maycauseenginedamageandrequireyoutocheckthe
fuelsystem.
Thefuel-selectorvalveislocatedbehindtheleftsideofthe
seat.
Themachinehas2fueltanks.Onetankisontheleftsideand
anothertankisontherightside.Eachtankconnectstothe
fuel-selectorvalve.Fromthereacommonfuellineleadsto
theengine(Figure7).
Tousetheleftfueltank,rotatethefuel-selectorvalvetothe
left.Tousetherightfueltank,rotatethefuel-selectorvalve
totheright(Figure7).
Closethefuel-selectorvalvebeforetransportingorstoring
themachine.
