1.RaisethemowerliftlevertotheTRANSPORTposition.
2.Checkthedistancebetweenthe2largewashers,it
needstobe28.2cm(11–1/8inches)for52-inch
mowerdecksand26.7cm(10–1/2inches)for60-inch
mowerdecks(Figure83).
3.Toadjustthisdistance,loosenthespringjamnut
andturnthenutinfrontofeachspring(Figure
83).Turnthenutclockwisetoshortenthespring;
counter-clockwisetolengthenthespring.
4.Lockthenutintopositionbytighteningthespringjam
nut(Figure83).

ServicingtheCuttingBlades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseasonbecause
sharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingorshreddingthegrass
blades.Tearingandshreddingturnsgrassbrownattheedges,
whichslowsgrowthandincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,andforany
wearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpenthe
bladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replace
itimmediatelywithagenuineTororeplacementblade.For
convenientsharpeningandreplacement,youmaywantto
keepextrabladesonhand.
DANGER
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownatyouorbystanders,
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagetheblade
control(PTO),settheparkingbrake,turntheignitionkeyto
theOFFposition,andremovethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure84).Iftheedges
arenotsharporhavenicks,removeandsharpenthe
blades.Referto(page).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea(Figure
84).Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,oraslotforming
inthisarea(Figure84),immediatelyinstallanewblade.

1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotion-controlleversto
theNEUTRAL-LOCKposition,andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Rotatethebladesuntiltheendsfaceforwardand
backward(Figure85).Measurefromalevelsurfaceto
thecuttingedge,positionA,oftheblades(Figure85).
