Safety
ThismachinemeetsorexceedsEuropeanStandardsin
effectatthetimeofproduction.However,improperuse
ormaintenancebytheoperatororownercanresultin
injury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,complywiththese
safetyinstructionsandalwayspayattentiontothesafety
alertsymbol,whichmeansCAUTION,WARNING,or
DANGER-"personalsafetyinstruction."Failuretocomply
withtheinstructionmayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.
SafeOperatingPractices
ThefollowinginstructionsarefromtheCENstandardEN
836:1997.
Thisproductiscapableofamputatinghandsandfeetand
throwingobjects.Alwaysfollowallsafetyinstructionsto
avoidseriousinjuryordeath.
Training
•Readtheinstructionscarefully.Befamiliarwiththe
controlsandtheproperuseoftheequipment.
•Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwiththese
instructionstousethemachine.Localregulationscan
restricttheageoftheoperator.
•Neveroperatethemachinewhilepeople,especially
children,orpetsarenearby.
•Theoperatororuserisresponsibleforaccidentsor
hazardsoccurringtootherpeopleortheirproperty.
•Donotcarrypassengers.
•Alldriversshouldseekandobtainprofessionaland
practicalinstruction.Suchinstructionshouldemphasize:
–theneedforcareandconcentrationwhenworking
withride-onmachines;
–controlofaride-onmachineslidingonaslopewill
notberegainedbytheapplicationofthecontrol
levers.Themainreasonsforlossofcontrolare:
◊insufcientwheelgrip,especiallyonwetgrass;
◊beingdriventoofast;
◊inadequatebraking;
◊thetypeofmachineisunsuitableforitstask;
◊lackofawarenessoftheeffectofground
conditions,especiallyslopes;
◊incorrecthitchingandloaddistribution.
Preparation
•Whileoperatingthemachine,alwayswearsubstantial
footwearandlongtrousers.Donotoperatethemachine
whenbarefootorwearingopensandals.
•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethemachineistobe
usedandremoveallobjectswhichmaybethrownbythe
machine.
•Warning–Fuelishighlyammable.
–Storethefuelincontainersspecicallydesignedfor
thispurpose.
–Refueloutdoorsonlyanddonotsmokewhile
refuelling.
–Addfuelbeforestartingtheengine.Neverremove
thecapofthefueltankoraddfuelwhiletheengineis
runningorwhentheengineishot.
–Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostarttheengine
butmovethemachineawayfromtheareaofspillage
andavoidcreatinganysourceofignitionuntilfuel
vaporshavedissipated.
–Replaceallfueltanksandcontainercapssecurely.
•Replacefaultysilencers.
•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethatthe
blades,bladebolts,andcutterassemblyarenotwornor
damaged.Replacewornordamagedbladesandboltsin
setstopreservebalance.
•Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotatingoneblade
cancauseotherbladestorotate.
Operation
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Iflightning
isseenorthunderisheardinthearea,donotoperate
themachine;seekshelter.
•Bealert,slowdown,andusecautionwhenmakingturns.
Lookbehindandtothesidebeforechangingdirections.
•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspacewhere
dangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescancollect.
•Operatethemachineindaylightoringoodarticiallight
only.
•Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,disengageallblade
attachmentclutchesandshiftthemachineintotheneutral
position.
•Donotusethemachineonslopesgreaterthan15degrees.
•Thereisnosuchthingasasafeslope.Travelon
grassslopesrequiresparticularcare.Toguardagainst
overturning:
–-donotstoporstartsuddenlywhenonaslope;
–-useslowspeedsonslopesandduringtightturns;
–-stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandotherhidden
hazards;
•Usecarewhenpullingloadsorusingheavyequipment.
–-Useonlyapproveddrawbarhitchpoints.
–-Limitloadstothoseyoucansafelycontrol.
–-Donotturnsharply.Usecarewhenreversing.
•Watchfortrafcwhencrossingornearroadways.
•Stopthebladesbeforecrossingsurfacesotherthangrass.
•Whenusinganyattachments,neverdirectdischargeof
thematerialtowardbystandersnorallowanyonenearthe
machinewhileinoperation.
•Neveroperatethemachinewithdamagedguardsor
withoutsafetyprotectivedevicesinplace.
