2. Inspect the element for tears , an oily film, and
damag e to the r ubber seal.
Important: Nev er clean the paper
element with pr essuriz ed air or liquids.
R eplace the paper element if it is dama ged,
or cannot be cleaned thor oughl y .
Installing the Foam and Paper
Elements
Important: T o pr ev ent engine dama ge,
al w ays operate the engine with the complete
f oam and paper air cleaner assembl y installed.
1. Carefully slide the foam element onto the
paper air cleaner element ( Figure 26 ).
2. Place the air cleaner assembly onto the air
cleaner base ( Figure 26 ).
3. Install the air cleaner and secure with co v er n ut
( Figure 26 ).
Servicing the Engine Oil
Chang e the engine oil as follo ws:
After the first 8 operating hours .
After ev er y 100 operating hours .
Oil T ype: Deterg ent oil (API ser vice SF , SG , SH
or SJ)
Crankcase Capacity: with a filter c hang e , 57
ounces (1.7 l); without a filter c hang e , 47 ounces
(1.4 l)
V iscosity: See the table belo w .

Checking the Engine Oil Level
Note: Chec k the oil when the engine is cold.
1. Diseng ag e the PTO , mo v e the motion control
lev ers to the neutral loc k ed position and set
the parking brak e .
2. Stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and w ait for
all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving the
operating position.
3. Clean around the oil dipstic k ( Figure 30 ) so
dir t cannot fall into engine .

4. Pull the oil dipstic k and wipe the metal end
clean ( Figure 30 ).
5. Slide the oil dipstic k fully into the engine . Pull
the dipstic k out and look at the metal end
( Figure 30 ). If oil lev el is lo w , slo wly pour only
