Starting and Stopping Engine
Starting
1. Sit down on the seat and set the parking brake;
refer to Setting the Parking Brake, page 13.
2. Move the motion control levers to neutral.
3. Move the PTO (power take off) to “OFF”
(Fig. 3).
4. Move the throttle control midway between
“SLOW” and “FAST” positions before starting a
cold engine.
5. Move the choke control to “ON” position before
starting a cold engine.
Note: A warm or hot engine may require
choking. After engine starts, move
choke control to “OFF” position.
6. Turn ignition key “START” to energize starter.
When engines starts, release key.
Note: If starter does not crank, move the
motion control levers slightly to locate
neutral.
IMPORTANT: Do not engage starter for
more than 10 seconds at a time. If engine fails
to start allow 30 second cool-down period
between attempts. Failure to follow these
instructions can burn out starter motor.
7. After the engine starts, gradually move the choke
to “OFF” (Fig. 4). If the engine stalls or
hesitates, move the choke back to “ON” for a
few seconds. Then move the throttle lever to
desired setting. Repeat this as required.
