Note: T his usually occurs betw een 175° and
190° F .
As the engine contin ues to r un, the
coolant will become hot and pr essuriz ed.
If y ou open the radiator cap when the
coolant is hot, it could spray out and
sev er el y bur n y ou or bystander s.
W ear pr otecti v e clothing and a v oid
contact with hot coolant as y ou open the
radiator cap .
11. Once the coolant has w ar med up , top off the
coolant lev el to the sealing surface of the cap
and tighten the cap .
12. Open the reco v er y bottle cap and fill with
coolant to the Cold position after y ou tighten
the radiator cap .
13. Chec k the coolant lev els after sev eral shut
do wn and star t up cycles and top off the
coolant as needed.
If the engine has been r unning , the
coolant may be hot and pr essuriz ed.
If y ou open the radiator cap when the
coolant is hot, it could spray out and
sev er el y bur n y ou or bystander s.
Allo w the engine to cool f or at least 15
min utes bef or e opening the radiator cap .
T he radiator cap must be cool to the
touch.
Brake Maintenance
Checking the Brakes
Before star ting the spra yer , lightly press the brak e
pedal. If the pedal tra v els more than 1 inc h (2.5
cm) before y ou feel resistance , adjust the brak es;
refer to Adjusting the Brak es .
If y ou operate the spray er with poor l y
adjusted or w or n brak es, y ou could lose
contr ol of the spray er , r esulting in serious
injur y or death to y ou or bystander s.
Al w ays check the brak es bef or e operating
the spray er and k eep them pr oper l y adjusted
and r epair ed.
Adjusting the Brakes
Chec k the brak e adjustment daily . If the brak e
pedal tra v els more than 1 inc h (2.5 cm) before y ou
feel resistance , adjust the brak es .
1. P osition the spra yer on a lev el surface , stop
the pump , stop the engine , and remo v e the
ignition k ey .
2. Set the parking brak e .
3. Put the bloc ks under the wheels to prev ent the
mac hine from rolling .
4. R elease the parking brak e .
5. Loosen the front n uts on the brak e cables
under the front end of the spra yer ( Figure 55 ).

6. Tighten the rear n uts equally until the brak e
pedal mo v es betw een 1/2 to 1 inc h (1 to 2 cm)
before y ou feel resistance ( Figure 55 ).
Important: Ensur e that y ou tighten both
r ear n uts equall y so that the thr eaded ends
of the brak e ca bles in fr ont of the fr ont n uts
ar e the same length.
