Brake Maintenance

Checking the Brake Fluid

T he brak e ﬂuid reser v oir is shipped from the

factor y ﬁlled with DOT 3 brak e ﬂuid. Chec k the

lev el before star ting the engine eac h da y .

1. P osition the spra yer on a lev el surface , set the

parking brak e , stop the pump , stop the engine ,

and remo v e the ignition k ey .

2. T he ﬂuid lev el should be up to the Full line on

the reser v oir ( Figure 61 ).

3. If the ﬂuid lev el is lo w , clean the area around

the reser v oir cap , remo v e the cap , and ﬁll the

reser v oir to the proper lev el. Do not o v erﬁll.

Inspecting the Brakes

T he brak es are a critical safety component of the

spra yer . Inspect them as follo ws ev er y 100 hours:

• Inspect the brak e shoes for w ear or damag e .

If the lining (brak e pad) thic kness is less than

1/16 inc h (1.6 mm), re place the brak e shoes .

• Inspect the bac king plate and other

components for signs of ex cessi v e w ear or

defor mation. If any defor mation is found,

re place the appropriate components .

Adjusting the Parking Brake

Chec k the parking brak e adjustment ev er y 200

hours .

1. Loosen the set screw securing the knob to the

parking brak e lev er ( Figure 62 ).
