ServicingtheCuttingBlades
Toensureasuperiorqualityofcut,keepthebladessharp.
Forconvenientsharpeningandreplacement,youmaywant
tokeepextrabladesonhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownintotheoperator's
orbystander'sarea,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladesperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethebladesand
settheparkingbrake.Turntheignitionkeytooff.Remove
thekeyanddisconnectthesparkplugwiresfromthespark
plugs.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure54).Iftheedges
arenotsharporhavenicks,removeandsharpenthe
blades.RefertoSharpeningtheBlades.

2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea
(Figure54).Ifyounoticeanycracks,wear,oraslot
forminginthisarea(item3.inFigure54),immediately
installanewblade.
CheckingforBentBlades
1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotioncontrolleversto
theneutrallockedpositionandsettheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforallmoving
partstostopbeforeleavingtheoperatingposition.
3.Rotatethebladesuntiltheendsfaceforwardand
backward.Measurefromalevelsurfacetothecutting
edge,positionA,oftheblades(Figure55).Notethis
dimension.For36inchmowerdecksuseFigure56.

4.Rotatetheoppositeendsofthebladesforward.

Thedifferencebetweenthedimensionsobtainedin

3and4mustnotexceed1/8inch(3mm).Ifthis
dimensionexceeds1/8inch(3mm),thebladeisbent
andmustbereplaced;refertoRemovingtheBlades
andInstallingtheBlades.
