5.Removethesparkplugsandthemetalwashers.
CheckingtheSparkPlugs
1.Lookatthecenterofthesparkplugs(Figure24).
Ifyouseelightbrownorgrayontheinsulator,the
engineisoperatingproperly.Ablackcoatingonthe
insulatorusuallymeansthattheaircleanerisdirty.
2.Ifneeded,cleanthesparkplugwithawirebrushto
removecarbondeposits.

Important:Alwaysreplacethesparkplugs
whenithaswornelectrodes,anoilylm,or
cracks.
3.Checkthegapbetweenthecenterandsideelectrodes
(Figure24).Bendthesideelectrode(Figure24)if
thegapisnotcorrect.
InstallingtheSparkPlugs
1.Installthesparkplugsandthemetalwasher.Ensure
thattheairgapissetcorrectly.
2.Tightenthesparkplugsto16ft-lb(22N•m).
3.Connectthewirestothesparkplugs(Figure24).

DrainingtheFuelTank
Incertainconditions,gasolineisextremely
ammableandhighlyexplosive.Areor
explosionfromgasolinecanburnyouand
othersandcandamageproperty.
Draingasolinefromthefueltankwhenthe
engineiscold.Dothisoutdoorsinanopen
area.Wipeupanygasolinethatspills.
Neversmokewhendraininggasoline,and
stayawayfromanopenameorwherea
sparkmayignitethegasolinefumes.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,toassurefuel
tankdrainscompletely.Thendisengagethepower
takeoff(PTO),settheparkingbrake,andturnthe
ignitionkeytooff.Removethekey.
2.Closethefuelshut-offvalveatthefueltank
(Figure25).
3.Squeezetheendsofthehoseclamptogether
andslideitupthefuellineawayfromfuellter
(Figure25).
4.Pullthefuellineoffthefuellter(Figure25).Open
thefuelshut-offvalveandallowthegasolinetodrain
intoagascanordrainpan.
Note:Nowisthebesttimetoinstallanewfuellter
becausethefueltankisempty.RefertoReplacing
theFuelFilter.
5.Installthefuellineontothefuellter.Slidethehose
clampclosetothevalvetosecurethefuelline.
