DisassemblingtheWheelBearings(continued)
6.Straightenandremovethecotterpin(10)fromthetorsionaxle.
7.Removetheslottednut(7)andspindlewasher(6)thatsecurethewheel
hub(5)tothetorsionaxle(1).
8.Slideandremovethewheelhub(5)fromthetorsionaxle(1).
9.Disassemblethewheelhub(5)asfollows:
Note:Ensurethatyoudonotdamagethehubbore.
A.Pulltheoilseal(2)outofthewheelhub.Discardtheusedoilseal.
B.Removethebearingcones(3)frombothsidesofthewheelhub(5).
Cleanthebearingsinsolvent.Inspectthebearingstoensuretheyarein
goodoperatingcondition.
C.Cleantheinsideofthewheelhub(5).Inspectthebearingcups(4)and
bearingcones(3)forwear,pitting,orothernoticeabledamage.Always
replacebearingcupsandconesasaset.
D.Inspectthedrivestuds(9)fromthewheelhub.Replaceanywornor
damagedstuds.
10.Cleanandinspectthetorsionaxle(1).Replaceanywornordamagedaxles.
AssemblingtheWheelBearings
1.Cleanallthewheelhubcomponentsbeforeassembly.
2.Assemblethewheelhubasfollows:
A.Pressthebearingcups(4)intothehubuntiltheyseatagainstshoulderof
thewheelhub.
B.Fillthewheelhub(5)approximately50%fullofgrease.
C.Packboththebearingcones(3)withgrease.Installthegreasedinner
bearingconeintothecuponinboardsideofthewheelhub.
D.Installthenewoilseal
IMPORTANT
Thesealmustbepressedinsothatitisushwiththeendofthe
wheelhub.Thelipofthesealmustfacethebearing.
E.Lubricatetheinnersurfaceofthenewsealandpressitushwiththe
edgeofthewheelhub.
F.Packinsideofthewheelhub(5)withsomegrease.Positionthe
remainingbearingcone(3)intotheouterbearingcup(4).
3.Slidethewheelhubassembly(5)ontothespindleshaft(1)andsecureitin
placewiththespindlewasher(6)andslottednut(7).Donottightenthenut
orinstallthecotterpin(12).
4.Rotatethewheelhubbyhandandtightentheslottednut(7)to8.5to11.3
N·m(75to100in-lb)toseatthebearings(3).Oncethebearingshavebeen
seated,backthenutoff.
