•Disconnectthebatterybeforerepairingthe
machine.Disconnectthenegativeterminalrst
andthepositivelast.Connectthepositiveterminal
rstandthenegativelast.
•Chargethebatteryinanopen,well-ventilated
area,awayfromsparksandames.Unplugthe
chargerbeforeconnectingordisconnectingthe
battery.Wearprotectiveclothinganduseinsulated
tools.
AccessingtheBattery
Thebatteryisadjacenttothefueltankontheleftside
ofthemachine.Toaccessthebattery,raisethehood,
unscrewthethumbscrewthatsecuresthecoverover
thebattery,andremovethecover(Figure56).
Note:Thescrewisretainedwithalockingwasher.

WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshort
againstmetalcomponents,causingsparks.
Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto
explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
•Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,
donotallowthebatteryterminalstotouch
anymetalpartsofthemachine.
•Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsofthe
machine.
WARNING
Incorrectbatterycableroutingcoulddamage
themachineandcables,causingsparks.
Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto
explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
Alwaysdisconnectthenegative(black)
batterycablebeforedisconnectingthe
positive(red)cable.
