CoolingSystemSafety
Swallowingenginecoolantcancausepoisoning;
keepoutofreachfromchildrenandpets.
Dischargeofhot,pressurizedcoolantortouching
ahotradiatorandsurroundingpartscancause
severeburns.
Alwaysallowtheenginetocoolatleast15
minutesbeforeremovingtheradiatorcap.
Usearagwhenopeningtheradiatorcap,and
openthecapslowlytoallowsteamtoescape.
Donotoperatethemachinewithoutthecovers
inplace.
Keepyourngers,handsandclothingclearof
rotatingfananddrivebelt.

ASTMD3306(specicationforethylene-glycol

Useoneofthefollowingcoolantblends:
Glycol-basedpre-dilutedcoolant(50/50blend)
Glycol-basedcoolantmixedwithdistilledwater
(50/50blend)
Glycol-basedcoolantmixedwithgoodquality
water(50/50blend)
Totalhardness<170ppm
Chloride<40ppm(CI)
Sulfates<100ppm(SO
4
)
CheckingtheCooling
SystemandCoolantLevel
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Check
thecoolingsystemandthecoolant
level.
Beforeeachuseordaily—Removedebrisfrom
theenginearea,oilcooler,fuelcooler,and
radiator(cleanthemmorefrequentlyindirtyor
dustyconditions).
Every1,500hours—Changetheenginecoolant
Whentheengineiscold,thecoolantlevelshould
benohigherthantheCOLDmarkonthesideofthe
expansiontank(Figure69).Whentheengineis
warm,thecoolantlevelshouldbenohigherthanthe
FULL(HOT)mark.
IfthecoolantisabovetheCOLDmarkwhentheengine
iscold,itmayleakoutofthetankwhentheengine
getshotduringoperation.
