5.Removethe2ange-headscrewsthatattachthethermostathousingtothe
waterpump,andremovethethermostathousing.
6.Removethethermostatandsealfromthewaterpumphousing.
7.Cleanthegasketsurfacesofthepumpandthermostathousing.
8.Inspectthethermostatsealingareasinthepumphousing.Cleanthesealing
surfacesifthereiscorrosionorcontamination.
TestingtheThermostat
1.Removethethermostat;refertoWaterPump(page3–34)andThermostat
(page3–32).

3.Slowlyheatthewaterandstirthewatertomaintaintheuniformwater
temperature.Noteandrecordthetemperatureforthefollowing:
Thethermostatshouldstarttoopenat82°C(180°F).
Thethermostatshouldfullyopento8mm(0.315inch)liftat95°C(203°F).
Note:Replacethethermostat,whenitisnotopeningfully,partially,orfreely.
InstallingtheThermostat
1.Installthesealandthermostatintothewaterpumphousing.
2.Alignthethermostatgasketandhousingtothewaterpumphousing.
Assemblethethermostathousingtothewaterpumpwiththe2ange-head
screws;torquethescrewsto19N∙m(14ft-lb).
3.Installtheuppercoolanthosetothethermostathousingandsecurethe
hosewithahoseclamp.
4.Fillthecoolingsystemwithcoolant.
5.Runtheengineandcheckforanycoolantleaks.
6.Lowerthehoodandsecureit.
