Troubleshooting
Thereareanumberoffactorsthatcancontributetounsatisfactoryqualityofcut,
someofwhichmaybeturfconditions.Theturfconditionssuchastheexcessive
thatch,unevengroundconditions,sponginessorattemptingtocutoffthe
excessivegrassheightmaynotalwaysbeovercomebyadjustingthemachine.
Rememberthattheeffectiveoractualheight-of-cutdependsonthecuttingunit
weight,tirepressures,hydrauliccounterbalancesettings,andturfconditions.
Theeffectiveheight-of-cutwillbedifferentthanthebenchsetheight-of-cut.
FactorsthatcanAffectQualityofCut
Factor
PossibleProblem/Correction
1.Maximumgovernedenginespeed.EnsurethatthethrottlecontrolisplacedintheFASTposition
whenmowing.Checkthemaximumgovernedengine
speed;refertoChapter3:DieselEngine(page3–1).
2.Bladespeed.Allthedeckbladesshouldrotateatthesamespeed.
RefertotheitemsintheTroubleshooting(page4–48).
3.Tirepressure.
Checktheairpressureofallthemachinetires
includingthecuttingdeckcastortires.Adjustto
thepressuresspeciedintheOperator’sManual.
4.Bladecondition.
Sharpenthebladesiftheircuttingedgesaredullornicked.
Inspectthebladesailforwearordamage.Replace
thebladeifnecessary.
5.Mowerhousingcondition.Ensurethatthecuttingchambersareingoodcondition.
Keeptheundersideofthedeckclean.Theunwanted
materialbuildupcanreducethecuttingperformance.
6.Height-of-cut.Ensurethatallthedeckheight-of-cutadjustmentsarethe
same.AdjustthedeckasspeciedintheOperator’sManual.
7.Cuttingdeckalignmentandgroundfollowing.Checktheliftarmsandcuttingdeckpivotpinsfor
wear,damage,orbinding.
8.Rollerandcastorwheelcondition.Alltherollersandcasterwheelsshouldrotate
freely.Replacethebearingsifwornordamaged.
9.Grassconditions.Mowwhenthegrassisdryforbestcuttingresults.
Also,removeonly25.4mm(1inch)or1/3ofthe
grassbladewhencutting.
