Theswitchusedfortheparkingbrakeisnormallytheopenproximityswitch
thatislocatedunderthesteeringtowercover(Figure261).Theparkingbrake
switchisaninputfortheTEC-5002controller.Whenyoudonotsettheparking
brake,atabonthebrakerodispositionedneartheswitchsensezonethat
causestheswitchtoclose.Whenyousettheparkingbrake,thebrakerodtab
ispositionedawayfromtheswitchallowingtheswitchtobeinNORMAL,OPEN
position(nocontinuity).
TestingtheParkingBrakeSwitch
1.Beforeyoudisconnecttheparkingbrakeswitchfortesting,ensurethat
youtesttheswitchanditscircuitwiringasaTECcontrollerinputwiththe
InfoCenterdiagnosticdisplay;refertoInfoCenterDisplay(page5–13).
2.Ifthediagnosticdisplayveriesthattheparkingbrakeswitchandcircuit
wiringarefunctioningcorrectly,thennomoreswitchtestingisnecessary
3.Ifthediagnosticdisplaydeterminesthattheparkingbrakeswitchandcircuit
wiringarenotfunctioningcorrectly,thentesttheparkingbrakeswitch.
4.EnsurethatthekeyswitchisintheOFFpositionandthekeyisremoved
fromthekeyswitch.
5.Removethefrontsteeringtowercover;refertoDisassemblingtheSteering
Tower(page7–4).
6.Locatetheparkingbrakeswitchanddisconnectthewireharnessconnector
fromtheswitch.
7.Disconnecttheswitchelectricalconnectorfromthemachinewireharness.
8.Connectamultimeter(ohmssetting)acrosstheconnectorterminalstocheck
thecontinuityoftheswitch.
9.Withtheparkingbrakereleased(thebrakerodtabawayfromthebrake
switch),ensurethatthereisnocontinuity(inniteresistance)betweenthe
switchterminals.
