engineusedintheGroundsmaster5900and5910machines.Additionally,
someenginerepairproceduresaredescribedinthismanual.Thedescribed
adjustmentsandrepairsrequiretoolswhicharecommonlyavailableinmany
serviceshops.
SomeserviceandrepairpartsfortheengineinyourGroundsmasteraresupplied
throughyourAuthorizedT oroDistributor.Bepreparedtoprovideyourdistributor
withtheToromodelandserialnumberofyourmachinetoobtaintheparts.
Thedetailedinformationontheenginetroubleshooting,testing,disassembly,and
assemblyisidentiedintheCumminsServiceManual,whichexplainstheuseof
somespecializedtoolsandtestequipment.However,thespecializednatureof
someenginerepairsmaydictatethattheworkbedoneatanenginerepairfacility.
OperatorsManual
TheOperator’sManualprovidesinformationregardingtheoperation,general
maintenance,andmaintenanceintervalsforyourmachine.Refertothe
Operator’sManualforadditionalinformationwhenservicingthemachine.
EngineIdentication
Theenginedataplate,locatednearthestartermotor,includestheengineserial
numberandcontrolpartslistnumber.Thefuelinjectiondataplateislocatedon
thefuelinjectionpump.TheECMdataplateisontheelectroniccontrolmodule
attachedtotheywheelendoftheengine.Theseengineidenticationtagswill
assistinidentifyingthecorrectpartsandserviceinformationfortheCummins
engineinyourmachine.
EngineElectronicControlModule(ECM)
TheCumminsenginethatisusedintheGroundsmaster5900and5910
machinesuseanelectroniccontrolmodule(ECM)forenginemanagement
andtocommunicatewiththeTECcontrollersandoperatorInfoCenteronthe
machine.PlugtheengineECMelectricalconnectorsintothecontrollerbefore
youmovethemachinekeyswitchfromtheOFFpositiontoeithertheONorSTART
position.IftheengineECMistobedisconnectedforanyreason,ensurethat
thekeyswitchisintheOFFpositionwiththekeyremovedbeforedisconnecting
theECM.Also,topreventdamagingthemodulewhenweldingonthemachine,
disconnectandremovetheengineECMfromtheenginebeforewelding.
ShuttingOfftheEngine
IMPORTANT
Beforeshuttingofftheengineaftermowingorfull-loadoperation,
allowtheenginetorunatlow-idlespeedfor5minutes.Thisallows
theturbochargerandinternalenginecomponentstoadequately
cool-down.Failuretoallowthiscool-downperiodmayleadto
prematureturbochargerandenginefailure.
