Performingtestingonthehydraulicsystemcancausepersonal
injuryanddamagetotheequipment.
ReadallWarning,Cautions,andprecautionsatthebeginningof
thissection.
3.Turnthesteeringwheelandfullyextendthesteeringcylinderrodtotest
thecylinder.
4.Cleantheareaaroundthehydraulichosetotestattherodendofthe
steeringcylinder.
5.Putadrainpanunderthesteeringcylinder,andremovethehydraulichose
fromthettingattherodendofthesteeringcylindertotestthesteering
cylinder.
6.Installasteelplugintothedisconnectedhose.
7.Removeallthehydraulicuidfromthedrainpan.Ensurethattheempty
drainpanstaysundertheopenttingofthesteeringcylinder.
8.Turnthesteeringwheelinthesamedirectiontoextendthecylinder.Monitor
theopenttingontheextendedsteeringcylinderasyouturnthesteering
wheel.Ifuidcomesoutthettingwhileyouareturningthesteeringwheel,
repairorreplacethesteeringcylinderthathasinternalleakage;referto
SteeringCylinders(page4–186)andServicingtheSteeringCylinder(page
4–188).Checkthedrainpanforanysignofuidindicatingcylinderleakage.
9.Aftertesting,removetheplugfromthehydraulichose.Connectthehoseto
thesteeringcylindertting.
10.Ifthereisasteeringproblemandthesteeringcylindertestedsatisfactorily,
servicethesteeringcontrolvalve;refertoSteeringControlValve(page
4–182)andServicingtheSteeringControlValve(page4–185).
11.Checkthehydraulic-uidlevelinthehydraulicreservoirandadjustitif
necessary.
