BleedingtheFuelSystem
Youmustbleedthefuelsystembeforestartingthe
engineifanyofthefollowingsituationshaveoccurred:
•Initialstartupofanewmachine.
•Enginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
•Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponfuelsystem
components;i.e.,lterreplaced,separatorserviced,
etc.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandensurethat
thefueltankisatleasthalffull.
2.Openthehoodandsecureitwiththeproprod.
3.Opentheairbleedscrewonthefuelinjectionpump
(
Figure48)witha12mmwrench.

4.TurnthekeyintheignitionswitchtotheOn
position.Theelectricfuelpumpwillbeginoperation,
therebyforcingairoutaroundtheairbleedscrew.
LeavethekeyintheOnpositionuntilasolidstream
offuelowsoutaroundthescrew.
5.TightenthescrewandturnthekeytotheOff
position.
Note:Normally,theengineshouldstartaftertheabove
bleedingproceduresarefollowed.However,ifengine
doesnotstart,airmaybetrappedbetweeninjection
pumpandinjectors;refertoBleedingAirfromthe
Injectors.

1.LoosenthepipeconnectiontotheNo.1nozzleand
holderassembly(Figure49).

Usecleandieselfueltoushoutthetank.
Important:Drainandcleanthetankifthefuel
systembecomescontaminatedorifthemachineis
tobestoredforanextendedperiod.
