TractionCircuitComponentFailure
ThetractioncircuitoftheGroundsmaster4300-Dmachinesisaclosedloop
systemthatincludesthepiston(traction)pumpand4wheelmotors.Ifa
componentfailureoccursinthetractioncircuit(e.g.,traction(piston)pump
orwheelmotor),unwantedmaterialandcontaminationfromthedamaged
componentwillcirculatethroughoutthetractioncircuit.Thiscontaminationcan
damageothercomponentsinthecircuit,soremovethecontaminationtoprevent
additionalcomponentfailure.
Therecommendedmethodtoremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitis
totemporarilyinstallaTorohighowhydraulic-uidlterintothecircuit;refer
toSpecialTools(page4–31).Useahighowhydraulic-uidlterwhenyou
connecthydraulictestgaugesinordertotestthetractioncircuitcomponentsor
afteryoureplaceafailedtractioncircuitcomponent(e.g.,traction(piston)pump
orwheelmotor).Usingahighowhydraulic-uidlterwillremovecontaminates
fromthehydraulicuidinthetractioncircuit,therebypreventingadditional
componentdamage.
AfteryouhaveinstalledtheTorohighowhydraulic-uidlterinthetraction
circuit,raiseandsupportthemachinewithallthedrivewheelsofftheground.
Then,operatethetractioncircuittoallowthehydraulicuidtoowthroughthe
circuit.Thelterremovescontaminationfromthetractioncircuitduringthecircuit
operation.BecausetheT orohighowlterisbi-directional,thetractioncircuit
canbeoperatedinboththeforwardandreversedirection.Whenyouarecertain
thatthelterhasremovedthecontaminatesfromthehydraulicuidofthetraction
circuit,removethelter.RefertoFilteringtheClosed-LoopTractionCircuit(page
4–91)foradditionalinformationonusingtheTorohighowhydraulic-uidlter.
Thealternativemethodtoremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitisto
disassembletheentiretractioncircuit,drainthehydraulicuid,andcleanallthe
components,tubes,andhosesinthetractioncircuit.Operatingthemachine
withcontaminantsinthetractioncircuitcouldcauseadditionaldamageto
componentsofthetractioncircuit.
