RemovingandInstalling
theMowerBlade(s)
Theblademustbereplacedifasolidobjectishit,the
bladeisoutofbalance,orifthebladeisbent.Always
usegenuineTororeplacementbladestoensuresafety
andoptimumperformance.
1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighestposition,
engagetheparkingbrake,shutofftheengine,
andremovetheignitionkey.
Note:Blockthemowerdecktopreventitfrom
accidentallyfalling.
2.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragor
thickly-paddedglove.
3.Removethebladebolt,anti-scalpcup,and
bladefromthespindleshaft(Figure112).

InspectingandSharpening
theMowerBlade(s)
2areasmustbeconsideredwhencheckingand
servicingthemowerblade—thesailandthecutting
edge.Bothcuttingedgesandthesail,whichis
theturned-upportionoppositeofthecuttingedge,
contributetoagoodqualityofcut.Thesailis
importantbecauseitliftsthegrassupstraight,thereby
producinganevencut.However,thesailgradually
wearsdownduringoperation.Asthesailwearsdown,
thequalityofcutdegradessomewhat,althoughthe
cuttingedgesaresharp.Thecuttingedgeoftheblade
mustbesharpsothatthegrassiscutratherthan
torn.Adullcuttingedgeisevidentwhenthetipsof
thegrassappearbrownandshredded.Sharpenthe
cuttingedgestocorrectthiscondition.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,raise
themowerdeck,engagetheparkingbrake,put
thetractionpedalinNEUTRAL,putthePTOlever
intheOFFposition,shutofftheengine,and
removethekeyfromtheignition.
2.Examinethecuttingendsofthebladecarefully,
especiallywheretheatandcurvedpartsofthe
blademeet(Figure113).
Note:Becausesandandabrasivematerial
canwearawaythemetalthatconnectsthe
atandcurvedpartsoftheblade,checkthe
bladebeforeusingthemower.Ifwearisnoticed
(Figure113),replacetheblade.
