AdjustingtheService
Brakes
Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan
25mm(1inch)offreetravelofthebrakepedal,or
whenthebrakesdonotworkeffectively.Freetravelis
thedistancethebrakepedalmovesbeforeyoufeel
brakingresistance.
1.Releasethelockinglatchfromthebrakepedals
sothatbothpedalsworkindependentlyofeach
other.
2.Toreducefreetravelofthebrakepedals,tighten
thebrakesasfollows:
A.Loosenthefrontnutonthethreadedendof
thebrakecable(Figure74).

Propertensionofthebeltallows10mm(3/8inch)of
deectionwhenaforceof44N∙m(10ft-lb)isapplied
onthebeltmidwaybetweenthepulleys.
Ifthedeectionisnot10mm(3/8inch),loosenthe
alternator-mountingbolts(Figure75).
Note:Increaseordecreasethealternator-belt
tensionandtightenthebolts.Checkthedeectionof
thebeltagaintoensurethatthetensioniscorrect.

tensionandtightenthebolt.Checkthedeection
ofthebeltagaintoensurethatthetensionis
correct.
