TractionCircuit(ClosedLoop)ComponentFailure
ThetractionsystemoftheGroundsmaster7210machineconsistsof2identical
andindependentclosedlooptractioncircuits.Ifacomponentfailureoccurs
in1ofthesetractioncircuits(e.g.,wheelmotorortransmissionpistonpump),
unwantedmaterialandcontaminationfromthedamagedcomponentwill
circulatethroughoutthetractioncircuit.Thiscontaminationcandamageother
componentsinthecircuit,soremovethecontaminationtopreventadditional
componentfailure.
Ifacomponentfailureoccursin1ofthesetractioncircuits,disassemblethe
entiretractioncircuit,drainthehydraulicuid,andcleanthetractioncircuit
(transmissionpistonpump,hydraulichoses,andwheelmotor)toensurethatyou
removeallcontaminationfromit.Operatingthemachinewithcontaminantsin
thetractioncircuitcouldcauseadditionaldamagetocomponentsofthetraction
circuit.
Analternativeproceduretoremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitisto
temporarilyinstallahigh-pressurehydraulic-uidlterintothecircuit;referto
SpecialT ools(page4–23).Useahigh-pressurehydraulic-uidlterwhenyou
connectthehydraulictestgaugesinordertotestthetractioncircuitcomponents
orafteryoureplaceafailedtractioncircuitcomponent(e.g.,wheelmotoror
transmissionpistonpump).Usingahigh-pressurehydraulic-uidlterwill
removecontaminatesfromthehydraulicuidinthetractioncircuit,thereby
preventingadditionalcomponentdamage.
Afteryouhaveinstalledthehigh-pressurehydraulic-uidlterinthetraction
circuit,raiseandsupportthemachinewithjackstandsandoperatethetraction
circuittoallowthehydraulicuidtothecircuit.Withthemachineraisedoffthe
ground,thetractioncircuitwillhavemaximumuidowatminimumpressure
tominimizedamagefromanyremainingcontamination.Thislterremoves
contaminantsfromtheclosedlooptractioncircuitduringthecircuitoperation.
Whenyouarecertainthatthelterhasremovedthecontaminatesfromthe
hydraulicuidofthetractioncircuit,removethelter.
IMPORTANT
Whenyouoperatethetractionsystemwiththeadditional
high-pressurelter,ensurethattheowisalwaysdirectedthrough
thelterbeforeitentersintoareplacedcomponent(e.g.,donot
movethetractionleverstomovethemachineinthereverse
directionifyouinstalledthelterinthetractioncircuitformoving
themachineintheforwarddirection).Ifhydraulicuidowsinthe
oppositedirectionthroughthehigh-pressurehydraulic-uidlter,
contaminationfromthelterwillagaincirculatethroughthetraction
circuit.
