Thefollowingproceduresassumetherearaxleassemblyhasbeenremoved
fromthemachine.
Removal(Figure278)
1.Removethecoverplate,gasketandgearcaseassemblyfromtheaxle
assembly.Removethegasketandanyremaininggasketmaterial.
2.Removetheretainingrings,thedrivengearandtheneedlebearingfrom
theinputshaft/piniongear.
3.Removeinputshaft/piniongearassemblyfromthegearcase.Removethe
shimsandbearingcaseO-rings.
4.Releasethestakewasherandremovethelocknut.Removeanddiscard
thestakewasher.
5.Drivetheinputshaft/piniongearoutfromtheouterbearingconeandbearing
case.RemoveanddiscardtheoilsealandO-ring.
6.Inspectallgears,shafts,bearings,spacersandcasesfordamageandwear.
Replacecomponentsasnecessary.
Note:Replacementinputshaft/piniongear(item11)isonlyavailablein
matchedsetwithdifferentialringgear.
