BatteryTest(OpenCircuit)
Useamultimetertomeasurethevoltagebetweenthebatteryterminals.
SetmultimetertotheDCvoltssetting.Thebatteryshouldbeatatemperatureof
60ºto100ºF(16ºto38ºC).Theignitionkeyshouldbeoffandallaccessories
turnedoff.Connectthepositive(+)multimeterleadtothepositivebatterypost
andthenegative(−)multimeterleadtothenegativebatterypost.Themultimeter
willdisplaybatteryvoltage.
Note:Thistestprovidesarelativeconditionofthebattery.Loadtestingofthe
batterywillprovideadditionalandmoreaccurateinformation.

Thisisasimpletestusedtodetermineifachargingsystemisfunctioning.Itwill
tellyouifthechargingsystemhasanoutput,butnotitscapacity.
Note:TheInfoCenterdisplaycanbeusedtoidentifybatteryvoltageduring
machineoperation.
UseadigitalmultimetersettoDCvolts.Connectthepositive(+)multimeterlead
tothepositivebatterypostandthenegative(−)multimeterleadtothenegative
batterypost.Keepthetestleadsconnectedtothebatterypostsandrecord
thebatteryvoltage.
Note:Uponstartingtheengine,thebatteryvoltagewilldropandthenshould
increaseoncetheengineisrunning.
Note:Dependingupontheconditionofthebatterychargeandbattery
temperature,thebatteryvoltagewillincreaseatdifferentratesasthebattery
charges.
Starttheengineandrunathighidle.Allowthebatterytochargeforatleastthree
(3)minutes.Recordthebatteryvoltage.
Afterrunningtheengineforatleastthree(3)minutes,batteryvoltageshouldbe
atleast0.50volthigherthaninitialbatteryvoltage.
Anexampleofachargingsystemthatisfunctioning:
Atleast0.50voltoverinitialbatteryvoltage.
InitialBatteryVoltage=12.30v
BatteryVoltageafter3MinuteCharge
=12.95v
