RemovingandInstallingthe
MowerBlade(s)
Theblademustbereplacedifasolidobjectishit,theblade
isoutofbalance,orifthebladeisbent.Alwaysusegenuine
Tororeplacementbladestoensuresafetyandoptimum
performance.
1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighestposition,engage
theparkingbrake,shutofftheengine,andremovethe
ignitionkey.
Note:Blockthemowerdecktopreventitfrom
accidentallyfalling.
2.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorthickly-padded
glove.
3.Removethebladebolt,anti-scalpcup,andbladefrom
thespindleshaft(Figure83).

tightenthebladeboltto115to149N∙m(85to110
ft-lb).

pointingtowardtheinsideofthemowerdeckto
ensurepropercutting.

InspectingandSharpeningthe
MowerBlade(s)
Consider2areaswhencheckingandservicingthemower
blade—thesailandthecuttingedge.Bothcuttingedges
andthesail,whichistheturned-upportionoppositeofthe
cuttingedge,contributetoagoodqualityofcut.Thesail
isimportantbecauseitliftsthegrassupstraight,thereby
producinganevencut.However,thesailgraduallywears
downduringoperation.Asthesailwearsdown,thequalityof
cutdegradessomewhat,althoughthecuttingedgesaresharp.
Thecuttingedgeoftheblademustbesharpsothatthegrass
iscutratherthantorn.Adullcuttingedgeisevidentwhen
thetipsofthegrassappearbrownandshredded.Sharpenthe
cuttingedgestocorrectthiscondition.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,raisethemower
deck,engagetheparkingbrake,putthetractionpedal
inNEUTRAL,putthePTOleverintheOFFposition,
shutofftheengine,andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Examinethecuttingendsofthebladecarefully,
especiallywheretheatandcurvedpartsoftheblade
meet(Figure84).
Note:Becausesandandabrasivematerialcanwear
awaythemetalthatconnectstheatandcurvedparts
oftheblade,checkthebladebeforeusingthemower.
Ifwearisnoticed(Figure84),replacetheblade.
