Pivoting(Tilting)theFront
CuttingUnitUpright
Note:Althoughnotneededfornormalmaintenance
procedures,thefrontcuttingunitcanbepivoted(tilted)toan
uprightposition.Shouldyoudesiretotiltthecuttingunit,
proceedasfollows:
1.Raisethefrontcuttingunitslightlyoffoftheoor,set
theparkingbrake,andstoptheengine.Removethe
ignitionkey.
2.Removethehairpincottersecuringdamperstolift
arms(
Figure76).Pivotdampertowarddeckhousing.

3.Removethehairpincotterandclevispinsecuringthe
height-of-cutchainstotherearofthecuttingunit
(Figure77).

4.Starttheengineandslowlyraisethecentercuttingunit.
5.Slowlyraiseeachwingcuttinguntilthecenterofgravity
shiftsandthedeckstartstorotateintotheupright
position.Stoptheengineandremovetheignitionkey

1.Slowlylowerwingcuttingunitsuntilthecenterof
gravityshiftsandthecentercuttingunitrotates
downward.
2.Sitontheseat,starttheengine,andlowerthecenter
cuttingunituntilitisslightlyoffoftheoor.
3.Securetheheight-of-cutchainstotherearofthe
cuttingunit.
4.Pivotdampersupwardintopositionandsecurewith
clevispinandcotterpin.
AdjustingtheCuttingUnit
Pitch
MeasuringtheCuttingUnitPitch
Cuttingunitpitchisthedifferenceinheight-of-cutfromthe
frontofthebladeplanetothebackofthebladeplane.Toro
recommendsabladepitchof8to11mm(5/16to7/16inch).
Thatisthebackofthebladeplaneis8to11mm(5/16to
7/16inch)higherthanthefront.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurfaceontheshop
oor.
2.Setthecuttingunittothedesiredheight-of-cut.
3.Rotate1bladesothatitpointsstraightforward.
4.Usingashortruler,measurefromtheoortothefront
tipoftheblade.Rotatethebladetiptotherearand
measurefromtheoortothetipoftheblade.
5.Subtractthefrontdimensionfromthereardimension
tocalculatethebladepitch.
AdjustingtheFrontCuttingUnit
1.Loosenthejamnutsonthetoporbottomofthe
height-of-cutchainU-bolt(Figure78).
2.Adjusttheothersetofnutstoraiseorlowertherearof
thecuttingunitandattainthecorrectcuttingunitpitch.
3.Tightenthejamnuts.
