6. Remove the hairpin cotter from the brake linkage rod
(Fig. 450).

1. Turn the engine off.
2. Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
3. Raise the machine until the tires are off the fl oor.
Support the machine with jack stands or blocks to
prevent it from falling.
4. Remove the brake band idler spring from the drive
wheel shield bolt (Fig. 448).

5. Remove the spring from the idler pulley (Fig. 449).
