SystemOperation
Beforeeachuse,checkthatthebladesstopwithin3
secondsofreleasingthecontrolbar.
UsingtheGrassBag
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Check
theblade-stopsystemoperation.
Thebladesshouldstopwithin3
secondsofreleasingthecontrolbar;
iftheydonot,contactanAuthorized
ServiceDealer.
Youcanusethegrassbagtochecktheblade-stop
system.
1.Removetherear-dischargeplug.
2.Installtheemptygrassbagonthemachine.
3.Starttheengine.
4.Engagetheblades.
Note:Thebagshouldbegintoinate,indicating
thatthebladesarerotating.
5.Whilewatchingthebag,releasethecontrolbar.
Note:Ifthebagdoesnotdeatewithin
3secondsofreleasingthecontrolbar,the
blade-stopsystemmaybedeterioratingand,
ifignored,couldresultinanunsafeoperating
condition.Havethemachineinspectedand
servicedbyanAuthorizedServiceDealer.
6.Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostop.
NotUsingtheGrassBag
1.Movethemachineontoapavedsurfaceina
non-windyarea.
2.Setall4wheelstothe3-1/2inch(89mm)cutting
heightsetting.
3.Takeahalfsheetofnewspaperandcrumpleit
intoaballsmallenoughtogounderthemachine
(about3inchesor75mmindiameter).
4.Placethenewspaperballabout5inches(13
cm)infrontofthemachine.
5.Starttheengine.
6.Engagetheblades.
7.Releasethecontrolbarandbegincountingout
3seconds.
8.Onthecountof3,pushthemachinequickly
forwardoverthenewspaper.
9.Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostop.
10.Gotothefrontofthemachineandcheckthe
newspaperball.
Note:Ifthenewspaperballdidnotgounder
themachine,repeatsteps4through10.
Important:Ifthenewspaperisunravelledor
shredded,thebladesdidnotstopproperly,
whichcouldresultinanunsafeoperating

GeneralSafety
Wearappropriateclothing,includingeye
protection;longpants;substantial,slip-resistant
footwear;andhearingprotection.Tiebacklong
hairanddonotwearlooseclothingorloose
jewelry.
Useyourfullattentionwhileoperatingthe
machine.Donotengageinanyactivitythat
causesdistractions;otherwise,injuryorproperty
damagemayoccur.
Donotoperatethemachinewhileill,tired,or
undertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs.
Thebladeissharp;contactingthebladecanresult
inseriouspersonalinjury.Shutofftheengine,
removetheignitionkey(ifequipped),andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
Keepbystandersoutoftheoperatingarea.Keep
smallchildrenoutoftheoperatingareaandunder
thewatchfulcareofaresponsibleadultwhois
notoperatingthemachine.Stopthemachineif
anyoneentersthearea.
Alwayslookdownandbehindyoubeforemoving
themachineinreverse.
Operatethemachineonlyingoodvisibilityand
appropriateweatherconditions.Donotoperate
themachinewhenthereistheriskoflightning.
Wetgrassorleavescancauseseriousinjuryif
youslipandcontacttheblade.Avoidmowingin
wetconditions.
Useextremecarewhenapproachingblind
corners,shrubs,trees,orotherobjectsthatmay
blockyourview.
Donotdirectthedischargematerialtoward
anyone.Avoiddischargingmaterialagainstawall
orobstruction;materialmayricochettowardyou.
Stoptheblade(s)whencrossinggravelsurfaces.
