downanysmallnickstomaintainthecuttingedge.
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrownintothe
operator’sorbystander’sarea,resultingin
seriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
Replaceawornordamagedblade.
RemovingtheBlade
1.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorathickly
paddedglove.
2.Removethebladenuts,theaccelerator,andtheblade
(Figure33).
SharpeningtheBlade
ServiceInterval:Every50hours
Filethetopsideofthebladetomaintainitsoriginal
cuttingangle(Figure34A)andinnercuttingedgeradius
(Figure34B).Thebladewillremainbalancedifyou
removethesameamountofmaterialfrombothcutting
edges.

BalancingtheBlade
1.Checkthebalanceofthebladebyplacingthecenter
holeofthebladeoveranailorscrewdrivershank
clampedhorizontallyinavise(Figure35).

commerciallymanufacturedbladebalancer.
2.Ifeitherendofthebladerotatesdownward,lethat
end(notthecuttingedgeortheendnearthecutting
edge).Thebladeisproperlybalancedwhenneither
enddrops.
InstallingtheBlade
1.Installasharp,balancedToroblade,theaccelerator,
theanti-scalpcup,andthebladenuts.Thesailof
theblademustpointtowardthetopofthemower
housingforproperinstallation.Torquetheblade
nutsto15to27ft-lb(20to37N-m).
Operatingthemowerwithouttheaccelerator
inplacecancausethebladetoex,bend,or
break,resultinginseriousinjuryordeathtothe
operatororbystanders.
Donotoperatethemowerwithoutthe
accelerator.
2.Returnthemowertoitsoperatingposition.
3.Connectthewiretothesparkplug.
