SafeOperatingPractices

GeneralInformation

•Readtheinstructionscarefully.Befamiliarwiththe

controlsandtheproperuseofthemachine.

•Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwiththese

instructionstousethemachine.Localregulationscan

restricttheageoftheoperator.

•Nevermowwhilepeople,especiallychildrenorpets,are

nearby.

•Theoperatororuserisresponsibleforaccidentsor

hazardsoccurringtootherpeopleortheirproperty.

Preparation

•Whilemowing,alwayswearsubstantialfootwearandlong

trousers.Donotoperatethemachinewhenbarefootor

wearingopensandals.

•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethemachineistobe

used,andremoveallobjectswhichcanbethrownbythe

machine.

•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethattheblade,

bladebolts,andcutterassemblyarenotwornordamaged.

Replaceawornordamagedbladeandboltsasasetto

preservebalance.

•Tororecommendsthatthemachinebesuppliedwitha

residualcurrentdevice(RCD)havingatrippingcurrent

thatdoesnotexceed30mA.

•Useonlya1.00mm

sizeextensioncordthatisnotlonger

than30mandissuitableforoutdooruse(ifapplicable).

•Regularlyinspectthepowercordsforsignsofdamageor

aging.Replacethemimmediatelyiftheyaredefective.

•Donotusethemachineifanypowercordisdamaged

orworn.

•Donotconnectadamagedextensioncordtothemains

supplyortouchadamagedcordbeforeitisdisconnected

fromthemainssupply.Adamagedcordcanleadto

Handling

•Mowonlyindaylightoringoodarticiallight.

•Avoidoperatingtheequipmentinwetgrass,where

feasible.

•Alwaysbesureofyourfootingonslopes.

•Walk;neverrun.

•Forwheeledrotarymowers,mowacrossthefaceof

slopes,neverupanddown.

•Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon

slopes.

•Donotmowexcessivelysteepslopes.

•Useextremecautionwhenreversingorpullingthe

machinetowardyou.

•Switchoffthemachinewhentransportingitfrom1

cuttingareatoanother.Stopthebladewheneveryou

movethemachineoffthelawn.

•Neveroperatethemachinewithdefectiveguardsor

withoutmountedsafetydevices(forexample,deectors

and/orgrasscatchers)inplace.

•Switchonthemotorcarefullyaccordingtoinstructions

Cut the cable tie around the handle and remove the cable tie and the packaging material (Model 21136 only). 3. Tighten the knobs on the handle to secure it in place. 2. Operation Planning Your Mowing Pattern Securing the Extension Cord Following the suggested mowing pattern will reduce the risk of running over the cord with the machine, and the cord will not sustain unnecessary wear. Do not allow the power cord to wrap around trees, shrubs, or other obstacles. Use only an extension cord recommended for outdoor, cold-weather use. Begin by mowing near the electrical power source. Mow back and forth, gradually mowing away from the power source (Figure 8).

WARNING When the machine is connected to a household power source, the machine is operational. Someone could accidentally start the machine and cause a serious injury to you or other bystanders. Always disconnect the machine from the power source whenever you leave the machine unattended.

Servicing the Blade Always mow with a sharp blade. A sharp blade cuts the grass evenly, without tearing or shredding the grass. When you replace the blade, use only genuine Toro replacement blades. Servicing the On/Off and Blade-Brake System Storage 1. Clean the machine housing. The motor and blade are designed to stop within 3 seconds after you release the control bar. Ensure that the control bar functions properly each time before you operate the machine. If the blade does not stop within 3 seconds or there is a grinding or scraping, metal-to-metal noise when you release the control bar, contact an Authorized Toro Service Dealer.

Troubleshooting Problem The motor does not start. Possible Cause 1. The extension cord is not connected to the machine. 1. Connect the extension cord to the machine and plug the other end of the extension cord into a normal household outlet. 2. The extension cord is damaged. 2. Check the extension cord, and repair or replace the cord if it is damaged. 3. Check the outlet fuse or the circuit breaker. 3. The fuse or circuit breaker is blown. The motor starts hard or loses power.
